Rocker Ted Nugent went on an unusual tirade at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Waco, Texas, on Saturday. The rant, which touched on topics ranging from abortion to US military aid to Ukraine, saw Nugent inexplicably calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “homosexual weirdo” and demanding, “I want my money back!” Nugent, noticeably slurring his words, told the crowd that “Men don’t give me my rights, God gives me my rights.”
Nugent then proceeded to discordantly strum his guitar as he called for a “moment of silence for the political prisoners in the gulags of Washington, D.C., because of jack-booted thugs in our own government.”
The bizarre outburst has been met with criticism, as Nugent’s remarks appear to support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and dismiss the global call for democracy. Furthermore, Nugent’s comments about Zelensky’s personal life are unfounded, as the Ukrainian president is married to a woman his own age.
Throughout his presidency, Trump’s rallies have often featured controversial and polarizing guests, with the intention of sparking conversation and inciting strong reactions.
