Watch: Moment meteor soars across Suffolk sky

BBC News Scienceen
A dazzling meteor has been captured on camera soaring across the night sky over Suffolk, sparking intrigue after the celestial spectacle was also spotted across multiple regions of the UK. The striking footage was recorded at approximately 00:23 BST on Monday by a home security camera owned by Denise Hubert in Kesgrave, near Ipswich. Reviewing the footage the following morning, Hubert admitted she did not "know what to make" of the sudden flash of light, but she soon realized "it must be something of interest". The meteor was not an isolated sighting for the region. It was also witnessed in several other parts of the country, including East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, and Cumbria. Astronomical experts have since weighed in on the origins of the flying object. John Maclean, speaking from the UK Meteor Network, clarified the event's origins, stating that "the meteor was not connected to any astronomical event, and likely splintered off from a larger asteroid."
